Overview
NExT is divided into two parts: Step 1 (Theory) and Step 2 (Practical). Step 1 is a computer-based exam covering 6 clinical subjects. Performance in Step 1 determines the PG seat allocation. Step 2 is a clinical/practical exam conducted after the internship, which is mandatory for obtaining a permanent registration/license to practice in India.
Registration
Registration for NExT (including Mock Tests) is handled through a dedicated portal by the conducting authority (AIIMS).
Eligibility: Final year MBBS students from NMC recognized colleges and Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs).
Process: Candidates must complete a 'Basic Registration' followed by 'Final Registration' and 'Generation of EUC'.
Internship: Completion of a 12-month mandatory internship is required before Step 2.
Documents: Aadhaar card, MBBS enrollment details, and scanned certificates are mandatory.
Attempts: No limit on the number of attempts for Step 1, provided Step 1 is cleared within 10 years of MBBS joining.
